Re: Steve Maclaren
Ha ha, Allardyce, master of the understatement and entirely giving the secret of his management style in one quote:

'He (Allardyce speaking about Benitez) "Of course he can say he won the Champions League with Liverpool, which is something I never did. But it was nowt to do with him. I don’t blame Benítez for claiming credit but as managers we know the truth. It’s like when you make a substitution in desperation and it comes off. You get all the credit for your tactical brilliance when it’s often just luck.”

Re: Steve Maclaren
Think that's the last time he will be a manager in the prem and maybe any where else. Had the same feeling about him when Newcastle signed him, as I did when we signed Uncle Abram.... .. this ain't gonna end well. An absolute fraud of a manager.

No, what I said was an offhand comment.

Re: Steve Maclaren
Rafa didn't sound wound up - he sounded like he thought BFS was a cunt.

And how do you make an offhand comment in a book?

Darby_ 9:25 Fri Mar 11
Re: Steve Maclaren
Rafa. Anyway, it was just an offhand comment. It just struck me that he enjoyed sticking the knife in.

Marston Hammer 9:21 Fri Mar 11
Re: Steve Maclaren
Who is he winding up? Maybe he's a decent bloke away from football or if you get to know him but he just comes across a massive cunt - I wouldn't consider him a wind up merchant in the slightest.

Had forgotten that they had a few more pops at each other.
Touchline at Newc v Sunderland should be interesting

League of Ireland .... ag ag ag

Re: Steve Maclaren
The Fat Sam comments about Rafa not deserving the champions league on his cv as Gerard won the final for him were proper odd. I'm not sure who he thought was in charge when they qualified, got through the group, quarters, semis etc.

Benitez made himself look a bit silly when he pulled out the 'what's he won?' comments though as he'd obviously forgotten his league of Ireland win with limerick.

Re: Steve Maclaren
Was trying to recall who else was in the frame when he got the job and thinking he must interview well to explain away his recent work at Nottingham Forest and then his achievement of taking Derby from top to out of the playoffs completely.
Winning the Dutch league sheems such a shubstantial time ago.

Is Benitez the man for a relegation battle? At least his clash with Sam Allardyce will be interesting. Sam will be straight on reminding him he hasn't got the Liverpool millions behind him now. As I recall they hated each other after Sam reckoned Rafa did a 'game over' sign at Anfield in some game or other.

Re: Steve Maclaren
I still can't believe they haven't breached FFP. He's spent a fortune in players and hasn't really sold anyone. I would have thought Townsend and shelvey alone would take them near the annual increase limit and they've signed shed loads on top of them.

Looks like he has all but gone and there going to hire the Spanish waiter, from the frying pan into the fire..................

And to think we were only a few hours from the waiter, maybe we had a huge slice of luck dodging this bullet, thank you Real Madrid
